Dr. Hermine Schnetler is a distinguished engineer and academic with over 30 years of experience in systems engineering across defence, commercial, and research sectors. She holds a BSc in Electronic Engineering and an MSc in Systems Engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, as well as a PhD in Software Engineering from Cranfield University, UK.

Dr. Schnetler has contributed significantly to the fields of optics and photonics, serving as the Head of Systems Engineering at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh, UK. Her work involves defining and specifying detailed requirements for scientific instruments used by UK and European astronomers. She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde, where she advocates for systems thinking and innovative engineering education.
